Yarmouth Castle, Isle of Wight
Built by Henry VIII in 1547, Yarmouth Castle is a small off-square blockhouse. It's purpose was to guard Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight harbour. It was built as part of Henry's second device programme to fortify the English coast with a chain of coastal defences against the threat of foreign invasion.
Yarmouth Castle, Isle of Wight provides a beautiful picnic spot, with stunning views over the Solent. Inside the castle visitors can experience the atmospheric recreation of how the rooms were used in the 16th century, and view the exhibition about the many wrecks which occurred in the treacherous stretch of sea which the castle overlooks.
