Wrest Park, Bedfordshire

The present house in Wrest Parkwas built in 1834-39, to designs by its owner the Thomas de Grey, 2nd Earl de Grey, inspired by buildings he had seen on trips to Paris and based his house on designs published in French architectural books.

Wrest Park has an early eighteenth century, 92 acre, garden, which is believed to have been originally laid out by George London and Henry Wise, then modified by Capability Brown in a more informal landscape style.

Visitors can stroll in the recently restored Italian and Rose Gardens and enjoy miles of reinstated historic pathways along which they will discover the garden buildings, pavilion and statues.

There are a range of activities to entertain children - including themed play areas and special activity packs for families. There is also a new visitor centre with café, exhibition and plant sales area
