Windmill Hill, Wiltshire
Windmill hill is part of the Avebury World Heritage site in Wilthsire.
Windmill Hill was once the site of an important Neolithic settlement and has some well preserved Bronze Age burial mounds.
The classic Neolithic 'causewayed enclosure' has three concentric but intermittent ditches and large quantities of animal bones were discovered here which indicate feasting, animal trading or rituals, or perhaps all three.
There is no charge to visit Windmill Hill as it is open all year round and is basically a hill that you can visit. This also means that are no facilites on the hill itself but there is a restaurant, toilets and baby changing facilities at the nearby Avebury Stone Circle site.
