Wilton House, Salisbury
Wilton House in Wiltshire is an English country house that has been home to the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years.
The Double cube room is the finest surviving 17th century state room in England and is the central feature of Inigo Jones' suite of state rooms.
Every British monarch since Charles II has visited Wilton House and its interiors are certainly fit for royalty. You will see furniture designed by Chippendale and William Kent, paintings by Van Dyck, Reubens and Rembrandt and ceiling painting by Thomas de Critz.
There are tours of the house every Tuesday at 2pm which cost an additional £4 on top of the house and grounds ticket.
To introduce you to the history of Wilton House there is a film presentation in the Old Riding School where you will also find the Times Past Times Present Exhibition, the Tudor Kitchen, The Dolls House Room and the Victorian Laundry.
Outside, there are 21 acres of gardens and parkland to explore with a Japanese water garden, Rose garden, woodland walk, adventure playground, whispering seat and Palladian walk. Picnic tables are available for you to enjoy your own lunch or there is a restaurant serving light lunches and snacks.
