Warkworth Castle ,

Warkworth Castle is a ruined, albeit well preserved castle, situated in Warkworth, Northumberland. It is a Grade I listed building. Traditionally Prince Henry of Scotland has been credited with its construction in the 12th century.

Warkworth Castle was originally built as a wooden fortress, some time after the Norman Conquest. It was later ceded to the Percy family, who held it, and resided there on and off until the 16th century. While the Percys owned Alnwick Castle which was considered more prestigious, Warkworth was the family's preferred home. During this period the castle was rebuilt with sandstone curtain walls and greatly reinforced. The imposing keep, overlooking the village of Warkworth was added during the late 14th century. It was refurbished, with much refaced stonework, by the Dukes of Northumberland in the late 19th century.

The castle featured in several scenes in Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 2.

The castle consists of three main sections: an outer square bailey at the southern end of the castle, and inner triangular bailey to the north of the outer bailey, and the keep which is situated on a mound at the extreme northern end of the inner bailey.
