Tintagel Castle, Cornwall

Tintagel castle stands in ruins on the dramatic cliffs of the Cornish coastline.

It is famously linked to the legend of King Arthur who was said to have been born at the castle and a cave has been named after Merlin. The site was originally a Roman settlement but the castle that exists today dates back to the 13th century.

Visitors have to park in the village and either walk to the visitor centre or take advantage of a Land Rover service which is operated in the summer season.

Its location on top of a cliff also makes it a hazardous attraction and may be unsuitable for those with small children.

Opening Times

Open everyday from 10am except 24-26 December and January 1st. Closes at 6pm in the summer season, 5pm in October and 4pm from November to March.

There are 100 steps leading up a steep hill to the castle which make it unsuitable for those with physical disablilities.
