The Fourth Plinth, London
The Fourth Plinth, in the north-west of Trafalgar Square, was originally intended for an equestrian statue of William IV. Partly due to William's unpopularity the funds for the statue were never raised. The plinth is now the location for specially commissioned artworks.
the current (2011) work is Nelson's Ship in a Bottle, by leading Anglo-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE, which was unveiled in Trafalgar Square on Monday 24 May 2010.
Previous works have included Antony Gormley's One & Other, an astonishing living monument and Marc Quinn's sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant .
