The Abbey Museum, Westminster Abbey, London
The Westminster Abbey Museum is sited in the vaulted undercroft of St Peter. This is one of the oldest areas of Westminster Abbey, dating back almost to the foundation of the Norman church by Edward the Confessor in 1065.
Exhibits include a unique collection of royal and other funeral effigies, as well as other treasures, including the 13th century altarpiece known as the Westminster Retable, England's oldest altarpiece. Some other artefacts on display include the saddle, sword, helm and shield of Henry V dating from the early 15th century, 12th century sculpture from the Norman abbey, Mary II's Coronation chair, and the armour of General Monck carried at his funeral in 1670.
Wax effigies in the museum include a likeness of Horatio, Viscount Nelson, and Prime Minister William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, modelled by the American-born sculptor Patience Wright.

The Museum is usually open daily, including Saturday from 10.30am to 4.00pm.
