The Abbey Gardens, Westminster Abbey, London
There are 4 gardens within Westminster Abbey: the Garth, the Little Cloister and College Garden are original gardens. St Catherine's Garden lies in the area of the ruined monastery and was created more recently.
Each Garden had a separate purpose: the Garth with its square of turf, bounded by Cloisters, gave the monks somewhere restful to spend time for spiritual refreshment. The Little Cloister Garden has a fountain and borders of scented plants and was set aside for recuperation after illness.
The College Garden was the Infirmarer's Garden, and was used for growing medicinal herbs and foods for the general well-being of the monks.
The Gardens were tended by a Head Gardener and two undergardeners.
Opening Times
Open from Monday - Saturday throughout the year from 9.30 - 4.45pm
College Garden is usually open 10-4 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - but check the website.
On Sundays and religious holidays the Abbey is open for worship only.

There is no additional fee for entry to College Gardens but donations are invited towards the upkeep of the gardens.
