Sandringham, Norfolk
Sandringham house was built in 1870 by the then Prince and Princess of Wales. Four generations of Royals have since used this house as a country retreat including the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh today.
The ground floor apartments are decorated much as they would have been in Edwardian times, complimented by objets d'art and famous portraits. Apart from the house there is a museum which contains some unusual collections including Royal vehicles, rare ceramics, photographs and memorabilia. You can also visit the 16th century parish church of St Mary Magdalene, considered to be one of the worlds best examples of a carrstone building.
A tractor and trailer tour can make access easier for those with tired legs but if you need reviving there is a restaurant and tea room providing refreshments. Visitors can also potter around the Gift shop, plant centre and visitor centre, to which there is no admission charge.
Opening Times
Sandringham House, Museum, Gardens and Church are open daily from mid March to end of July and from the beginning of August to end of October. The House and museum open at 11am and the gardens open at 10:30.
