Royal Courts of Justice, England
The Royal Courts of Justice is a stunning gothic style building that houses the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Justice in England and Wales. It is situated on The Strand in London and was built in the 1870's and opened by Queen Victoria in 1882.
The courts are open to the public who can attend any of the courts proceedings, although there may be some restrictions depending on the nature of the case. Visitors may just want to marvel at the intriguing interior with its lavish Great Hall, intricate tiled floors and oak panelled court rooms. The scale of the building is also breathtaking. There are over 1000 rooms and over three and a half miles of corridors including a secret one known as Chicken Run. There is also a costume display showing the different types of robes and wigs that are worn by the judges
You can explore the courts yourself or take one of the public tours. These opreate on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 11am and 2pm. Tours must be booked in advance.
