Royal Armouries, Leeds

The Royal Armouries museum in Leeds has over 8,000 exhibits relating to war and fighting.

There are 5 galleries to explore: War, Tournament, Oriental, Self Defence and Hunting. The history of war and tournaments is bought to life with dramatic performances of hand to hand combat, jousting displays, live horse shows to demonstrate hunting on horseback and falconry.

The artefacts date back to the Greeks and Romans with examples of their weapons and armour. You can then follow the development of weapons all the way through to the 21st century. There are exhibitions and craft displays involving a gunmaker, armourer and wardrobe mistress at work. Although entry to the museum is free, there may be additional charges for special events.

Open daily 10am - 5pm
The museum is closed 24-26 December.
