Lullingstone Roman Villa, Kent

Lullingstone Roman Villa is a villa built during the Roman occupation of Britain in about AD 100.

Not much is known about the family who owned and lived in the villa, but they would have been wealthy and they may have been Roman, though they could also have been native Britons who had adopted Roman customs.

Lullingstone Roman Villa is particularly notable for being the site of one of the earliest known Christian chapels in the country. Visitors to the villa today can still view the spectacular mosaics and rare wall paintings, a heated bath-suite and a ‘house-church’. A specially commissioned light show brings the villa to life, and galleries display Lullingstone’s fascinating collection of Roman artefacts.

Children can try on the Roman costumes and play traditional board games from the period.
