Ludgershall Castle and Cross, Wiltshire
Ludgershall Castle is a 12th century fortified royal residence which is now a ruin. Three large walls still remain of the private residence, which was turned into a hunting lodge by Henry III. The castle was abandoned by by the 15th century.
The remains of a preaching cross are situated in Ludgershall town centre. It is believed to have been erected some time in the early 19th century in the area that formed the old market place. It is 12 feet high and is surrounded by an ornamental iron fence erected in 1897. The cross has carved representations on four sides but they are badly eroded.
