Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick

The Lord Leycester Hospital has never been a medical establishment. The word "hospital" is used in its ancient sense meaning "a charitable institution for the housing and maintenance of the needy, infirm or aged". It is currently is a retirement home for ex-Servicemen and their wives.

The Hospital, dating mainly from the 14th century, comprises the medieval Chapel of St James the Great (12th century), living quarters (including the Master's House), a Guildhall (with anterooms) and a Great Hall. Also contained within the establishment are the tiny Master's Garden and the Museum of the Queen's Own Hussars.

For nearly 200 years it was the home of Warwick's mediaeval Guilds. In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I it became a place of retirement for old warriors and their wives.

Opening Times

The Lord Leycester Hospital is open Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays:
10.00am to 5.00pm Summer
10.00am to 4.30pm Winter

The Regimental Museum of the Queen's Own Hussars (housed in the Hospital) is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The Hospital is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day

The Master's Garden is open from Easter until the end of September
