Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire

Kirby Hall is a 16th century Elizabethan country house. Construction on the house began in 1570 based on the designs in French architectural pattern books and expanded in the classical style over the course of the decades.

The house is now in a semi-ruined state with many parts roof-less. In spite of this the walls show the exceptionally rich decoration that proclaims that its successive owners were always in the forefront of new ideas about architecture and design. The Great Hall and state rooms remain intact, refitted and redecorated to authentic 17th and 18th century specifications

Kirby Hall has been used as a filming location for Jane Austen's Mansfield Park and A Christmas Carol for Ealing Studios in 1999, and Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story in 2005.

Disabled Facilities

Access to hall: Via impacted gravel path from main gate. Whole ground floor easily accessible to wheelchair users. Great West Staircase is suitable for most ambulant disabled visitors. Chairs available in some rooms.

Gardens: All accessible via impacted gravel paths and smooth grass. Alternative entrance from forecourt to gain entry to garden.
