Jane Austen's House Museum, Hampshire
Jane Austen's House Museum is a small private museum, established in 1947, which occupies the 17th century house (known as Chawton Cottage) in which Jane Austen spent the last eight years of her life and where she wrote Mansfield Park, Emma and Persuasion.
Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature, her realism and biting social commentary cementing her historical importance among scholars and critics.
Jane Austen's House Museum is owned and run by the Jane Austen Memorial Trust, a registered charity which has as its objects "the advancement of education and in particular the study of English literature, especially the works of Jane Austen."
The Museum's collection includes eight music books owned by Jane Austen.
