Heligan, Cornwall

Heligan is a botanical garden site in Cornwall which fell into neglect after the First World War. The gardens were rediscovered in the early 90's and renovation started in 1996 to return it to its former glory.

There are 100 acres to explore and admire. The pleasure grounds include New Zealand and Italian gardens, summerhouses and pools, a superb herbaceous border, a rocky ravine, a crystal grotto and a wishing well.

The Productive gardens yield vegetables and exotic fruit is produced in the glasshouses. Surprisingly, a micro climate exists, creating a jungle area where you can walk amongst tree ferns, banana palms and giant rhubarb.

Visitors can also get a close look at the wildlife that inhabits the estate by visiting Horsemoor Hide and wildlife project. Here you can watch animals and birds live through cameras in nests or watch previously recorded film.

There are lots of interactive tools to help you learn more about the barn owls, foxes and badgers that are just some of the animals who live at Heligan.

Refreshments are served in the tearoom and many ingredients are sourced from the gardens nearby.

Open every day except 24th and 25th December from 10:00.
Closing time from March to October 6pm.
Closing time from November to February 5pm
