Haddon Hall, Derbyshire
Haddon Hall dates back to the 12th Century and has been the home to the same family since 1567. It is described as "the finest example of a fortified mediaeval manor house in existence" largely due to lack of alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, leaving it preserved in its late 16th century state.
As such a fine example of preserved mediaeval history, the house has featured in a variety of films including Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth and Jane Eyre.
Set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside the house is surrounded by terraced Elizabethan gardens. Inside, visitors can enjoy a 14th century banqueting Hall with minstrel's gallery, a fine oak panelled dining room and a Tudor period long gallery.
There is a licensed restaurant and gift shop.
