Goodwood House, England
Extensively developed in the early 18th century, Goodwood House has been the home of the Dukes of Richmond & Lennox for over 300 years. Several architects have contributed to the design of the house, including James Wyatt, Roger Morris and Matthew Brettingham.
It is thought that the intention was to build the house to a unique octagonal layout, but that only three of the eight sides were built. Some of the older parts of the house also survive, although some sections were demolished in the mid 20th century. The house has opulent neo-classical interiors.
The house is open to the public for a limited number of days a year and is also available to hire for weddings and corporate events.
The surrounding Goodwood Estate is a major sport and leisure venue featuring Goodwood Racecourse, Chichester/Goodwood Airport and Goodwood Circuit, the Goodwood Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club. The immediate grounds of the house also host to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. There is also a farm shop supplied directly from the Goodwood Estate.
