Eynsford Castle, England

Eynsford Castle is one of the most complete Norman castles in England, and is located close to the village of Eynsford. The "enclosure castle" was built around 1085-7, and ransacked in the 14th century before it fell into decay. For years it was used as dog kennels by the Hart-Dyke family of nearby Lullingstone.

Unusually it has been little altered by later building works and surviving fragments include sections of the curtain wall, some up to 30 feet in height, including evidence of the latrines, and buildings within the walls. The substantial stone walls of a very early Norman 'enclosure castle', begun around 1085-7 and unusually little altered by later building works. This rare survival stands in an attractive village setting, not far from Lullingstone Roman Villa.
