Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
Chatsworth house, built between 1687 and 1707, offers visitors a treasure trove of modern and historic artifacts. Wander around the three floors where you can see magnificent displays of art, furniture, sculptures and paintings housed in ornately decorated rooms. From the grandeur of the 1st Duke's Painted Hall and State Apartments with their rich decoration and painted ceilings, to the 19th century Library, Great Dining Room and Sculpture Gallery.
There is just as much to see outside with a thousand acres of gardens described by Alan Titchmarsh as 'one of the best and most vibrant gardens in Britain'.
For kids there are no restrictions on running around through the gardens, maze, farm or adventure playground. Enjoy five miles of walks, you can even take your dog!
If you're hungry after all the exploring there are various restaurants and cafes to keep you going, or visit the farm shop.
Chatsworth House appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It represented Pemberley, Mr Darcy's home. The house was also used in The Duchess (2008), featuring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, and The Wolfman (2010), with Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.
