Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire
Chalfont St Giles is a village in Buckinghamshire, 25 miles from London.
It is famous for being the home of John Milton who wrote Paradise Lost whilst living there. His cottage still stands and is open to the public every day except Mondays between March and October from 10am-1pm and from 2pm until 6pm.
The village is listed in the Domesday book in 1086 and has a Norman church built between 1150 and 1180. It has a variety of shops inlcuding a tanning salon, newsagents, pharmacy, bakery, dentists, hairdressers and estate agents. There are also three pubs and a tandoori restaurant. The village has a population of just over 6,500 people.
