Burton Agnes Manor House, England
Burton Agnes Manor House was built by Roger de Stuteville between 1170 and 1180, and named for one of his daughters. It is a surviving example of a Norman manor house, encased in 18th century brickwork.
In 1274 both of de Stutevlle's daughters passed by marriage to the Somerville family. In about 1323 Joan Somerville married Rhys ap Gruffud and their descendant Sir Walter Griffith is believed to have restored the Old Hall and added its present roof in the 15th century.
The adjacent Burton Agnes Hall (also open to the public) was built by Sir Henry Griffith between 1601 and 1610.
