Burton Agnes Hall, East Yorkshire,

Burton Agnes Hall is an Elizabethan manor house built by Sir Henry Griffith in 1601–10 to designs believed to be by Robert Smythson.[1] There is an older Norman Manor House, built in 1173 on an adjacent site.

The Hall contains a number of fine 17th century plaster ceilings and chimneypieces. The ceiling of the Long Gallery was restored by Francis Johnson between 1951 and 1974.

The house has passed down the Griffith line and has never been put up for sale. Today, the estate is owned by the Burton Agnes Preservation Trust and is managed by Cunliffe-Lister and his mother, Hon Susan Whitelaw.

The beautiful, gardens of Burton Agnes Hall contain over 4000 plant species, herbaceous borders, a jungle garden and national collection of campanulas, and a woodland walk with abundant snowdrop blooms, as well as the maze and giant games for children and adults alike.
The games include chess, draughts, snakes and ladders and hoop toss, each in a separate garden.

There is a gift shop, a cafe, an ice cream parlor, and a farmers' food shop in the grounds.
