Bristol Zoo, Bristol
Bristol Zoo occupies a 12 acre site in the heart of the city and is the fifth oldest zoo in the world. There are over 400 species of animals, birds, reptiles and marine life exhibited from lions and gorillas to bats and bugs.
As with most zoos, conservation is an important part of the zoos work and visitors can not only see the animals but learn about endangered species.
There are many opportunities to get close up with the animals. The Butterfly Forest allows you to walk through an enclosure full of butterflies and moths from around the world, the penguins can be viewed through transparent walkways and you can meet some of the smaller animals in the close encounter shows.
For children the activity centre offers crafts like brass rubbings, colouring, face painting and badge making and there is also a small adventure playground.
Opening Times
Open daily from 9am to 5.30pm in peak season, closing at 5.00pm off-peak.
