Benmore Botanic Garden,

Benmore Botanic Garden is a large botanic garden in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It features a large square walled gardens, a waterfall, the remains of a fernery, ponds and walks up the hillside to where you can look out across the Holy Loch. There is a cafe and a shop.

Benmore’s 120 acres boast over 300 species of rhododendron; Bhutanese and Chilean plantings and a spectacular avenue of Giant Redwoods planted in 1863. Several of the trees exceed 45 metres in height. Many of the garden's original plants were grown from seeds which were collected by famous plantsmen such as Ernest Wilson and David Douglas from their travels to Asia and Pacific North America.

The high rainfall and mild winters of the area suit many of the more unusual species of rhododendrons, magnolias and nothofagus grown. A river runs through the gardens from Loch Eck to the Holy Loch.

Benmore is a satellite garden under the management of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, as is its sister garden Logan Botanic Garden.

Opening Times

The Garden is open daily, 1 March - 31 October as follows:
March and October: 10.00am - 5.00pm
April to September: 10.00am - 6.00pm

Last entry is one hour before the Garden closes.

Benmore Cafe and shop remain open throughout winter:
1 November - 28 February: 10.00am - 4.00pm
(closed Monday and Tuesday).
