Belvoir Castle, England

Belvoir Castle has been the home of the Manners family for over 500 years. The castle's name means beautiful view, but the native Anglo-Saxon population was unable to pronounce such a foreign word, preferring to call it "Beaver Castle", and it is still referred to as Beaver Castle to this day. The current building was completed in the 19th century after previous buildings were damaged or destroyed in during the Wars of the Roses, the Civil War and a major fire in 1816.

The castle has been used as a setting in a number of films and TV programmes including the film Little Lord Fauntleroy starring Sir Alec Guinness. It was also used as a location in The Da Vinci Code, the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes starring Nicholas Rowe and Alan Cox, The Young Victoria and Jim Henson's production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Since spring 2006, the castle has been the venue for an annual folk music weekend.

Belvoir Castle hosts the Belvoir Fireworks Championships, an annual pyrotechnic and firework competition that takes place in mid-August.
