Avebury Stone Circle, Wiltshire

This prehistoric stone circle is a World heritage site set in the pretty village of Avebury in England. It is one of the largest Neolithic monuments in Europe dating to around 5,000 years ago.

Unlike Stonehenge you can walk up to, and touch these ancient stones. Nearby there is a museum and visitor centre where you can watch an interactive audio-visual display and view the finds from local excavations.

Visitors can also explore the sites historic buildings such as a 16th century dovecote and the 17th century threshing barn and stables.

Guided tours are available and for information on events at Avebury refer to the National Trust website. The site also has a restaurant specialising in vegan and gluten free meals.

Open all year except 24-26th December

Car park open in winter from 9:30 - 4:30 and in summer from 9:30 until 6:30
