Arthur's Stone, Herefordshire
Arthur's Stone is a Neolithic chambered tomb which is over 5000 years old.
The tomb is topped by a large capstone, believed to weigh over 25 tonnes. This stone capstone rests on nine upright stones.
The stones would originally have been buried within a mound, which is now almost completely eroded.
The site is one of many prehistoric monuments in western England and Wales to be linked with the legend of King Arthur. One tale suggests the tomb was built to mark the location of one of King Arthur's battles, while another says that the stones were already in position when Arthur slew a giant on the spot, who fell onto the stones and left indentations in one of them.
