Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, Argyll
Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is a 36 metre tall, pink granite tower lighthouse built in 1849 by Alan Stevenson in the Egyptian style.
The light was automated in 1988 and is now operated remotely by the Northern Lighthouse Board from Edinburgh.
The former keepers' cottages and outbuildings are owned by the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse Trust and operated as a visitor centre, with a museum called the 'Kingdom of Light'. An Exhibition details the history and operations of the lighthouse, including access to the restored engine room and workshop with the original fog horn.
Opening Times
The lighthouse facilities are open every day from Easter weekend or 1st April (whichever is earlier) until 31st October.
The Stables Coffee Shop and the Exhibition Centre are open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., seven days a week, during the season.
The first guided tour of the Lighthouse Tower starts at 11 a.m. and tours continue every half-hour until 4.30 p.m. Please telephone ahead to book a place in advance. You must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your tour.
